- India, one of the pretournament favourites, were shocked in their opening match by a 58-run defeat by New Zealand.
- Pakistan upset another of the favourites with their 31-run win against Sri Lanka.
- Defending champions Australia opened their campaign with a six-wicket win against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
